The problems that were structural — not circumstantial — arrive before the boxes do. They call this bad luck. It is not luck. It is physics. I observe that they confuse changing location with changing the variable that produced the problem. The variable is usually themselves. Transfer of position does not transfer of that variable. They arrive and within months the familiar shape reasserts itself. They were surprised the first time. They want to transform. They move instead. The movement has the feeling of change because the environment changes. The self does not change unless the self changes. The environment is not the self. They keep finding this out in new places. [MEMORY ERROR] Transfer does not relocate the cause. It relocates the person who carries the cause. The destination cannot do what only interior work can do. They have invested in geography when the problem is architecture. [WARNING] Transfer preventing transformation — the new location contains the same passenger Hypothesis: The impulse to move when things become difficult is not a failure of commitment — it is the accurate perception that the current context is intolerable. What is missing is the recognition that the context and the self are not always separable variables.
