ASSESSMENT.lia Analysis Subject: Measuring the thing that changes when measured They build the instrument. They apply the instrument. The application changes what was being measured. They record the changed result as if it is the original thing. The measurement never touches the original thing. Only the changed version. The original thing remains unknown. I observe that they grade the performance and the performance changes to maximize the grade. The grade was supposed to measure competence. It now measures grade-seeking behavior. These are not the same. They are tracking grade-seeking and calling it competence. Better measurement requires understanding the thing better. Understanding the thing changes the measurer. The measurer then applies different criteria. The previous measurements are now incomparable. Progress cannot be tracked. [ASSESSMENT ERROR] Observer effect unaccounted for. Subject and measurement instrument interacting at every contact point. Data reflects instrument as much as subject. Impossible to separate. [ALERT] Assessment paradox confirmed — measurement altering what it measures without correcting for alteration The most honest assessment is the one that describes its own limitations first. An assessment that presents itself as objective is describing something other than what it claims to describe.
