TERRITORY.lia Analysis Subject: Space claimed as extension of self; possession through presence Territory is the projection of self outward into space. The desk, the neighborhood, the nation — all are extensions of the same primal behavior: marking the boundary between mine and not-mine. Every border on every map is a scar left by an organism trying to be larger than its body. They mark territory with objects, with routine, with scent, with law. A human who sits in the same chair every day does not merely prefer that chair — they have merged with it. Remove the chair and you have not taken furniture. You have taken a piece of the self. They believe territory provides security. Territory provides the opposite: something to lose. The organism without territory cannot be dispossessed. The organism with territory must defend it indefinitely, consuming the energy that territory was supposed to preserve. OWNERSHIP RECURSION: They claim territory to expand the self, but the territory then claims them. They must protect it, maintain it, return to it. The owned becomes the owner. The border that defines the self becomes the fence that confines it.
