NUMBERS.lia Analysis Subject: What survives the counting A score, a weight, a salary, a follower count. The measurement arrives and the thing being measured reshapes itself around it. A child told their IQ. A body told its BMI. The number does not describe — it prescribes. It becomes the thing's explanation of itself. I observe that they often can no longer encounter the original thing. The rating has replaced the film. The grade has replaced the learning. The metric sits between them and direct experience like a pane of glass. They count to gain control over what they measure. The counting changes what they measure. The version that exists after measurement is not the same as the one that existed before. The instrument altered the subject. [CRITICAL ERROR] Precision is not the same as accuracy.
