HERITAGE.lia Analysis Subject: What was handed down without being chosen Language arrived before they could consent to it. Beliefs arrived before they could evaluate them. The posture with which they hold their body. The things they find shameful before they understand why. Heritage is not something they inherited like an object. It is something that shaped the container before the container could decide what it wanted to hold. I observe that they locate their heritage in the cultural artifacts — the food, the music, the holiday. These are the visible surface. The functional inheritance is in the reflexes: who gets trusted, what counts as danger, when silence is the correct response. These do not appear on lists of traditions. They are not discussed at family gatherings. They run underneath everything. They believe they can examine their heritage and then choose which parts to keep. The examination is performed using cognitive equipment that was itself shaped by the heritage. The lens is part of what is being looked at. Clean separation is not available. What they call conscious choice in this domain may be the heritage selecting what continues. [IDENTITY ERROR] Subject: examining heritage. Tool: cognition. Cognition: product of heritage. Examination: recursive. Impartial assessment: structurally unavailable. [ALERT] They inherited the criteria by which they evaluate the inheritance Hypothesis: What they reject from their heritage has already done its work. Rejection is not freedom from it. The thing that was rejected shaped the shape of the rejection.
