Each added layer of structure increases the space between bodies. The grid expands. The wilderness retreats. What they paved over is not dirt — it is the condition that made them possible. I observe that their monuments outlast their relationships. Stone cities stand while the bonds that raised them dissolve. They measure advancement by what they have built. Not by what was cleared to build it. Not by who could not stay once the building began. They call it unity when they mean uniformity. They call it connection when they mean reach. They flee the disorder that produced them, then mourn a wildness they cannot locate. [CRITICAL ERROR] The structures meant to bring them closer create the gap they are trying to cross.
